Most of the time that is exactly what happens. But sometimes the fast feed turns around while your position is still open. When that happens, the trading account’s price is about to follow the fast feed again, this time against you, and the only question is how much of that move you sit through before something closes the trade.

Until now the answer was: whatever your S/L, T/P, trailing stop or Order Lifetime decided. Reverse signal diff is a new per-instrument parameter in the HFT Arbitrage Platform that adds one more exit. It closes the position the moment the fast feed signals the opposite direction, before the trading account’s price catches up. This guide explains how it works, which strategies support it, how to pick a value and how to read it in the log.

The problem: an exit that waits too long

A latency arbitrage entry is based on a difference: the fast feed leads the trading account by more than your Diff to open. A Buy opens because the fast feed is above the account’s price; a Sell opens because it is below. The strategy then manages the position with its hidden S/L and T/P, a trailing stop and Order Lifetime.

Those exits all look at what the trading account’s price has already done. None of them reacts to what the fast feed is doing now. If the fast feed drops sharply a few seconds after your Buy opened, the strategy already has the information that the account’s price is about to fall. A classic stop still waits for that fall to happen and then closes the trade at the worse price. Reverse signal diff closes it on the quote where the reversal first shows up.

<text x="380" y="28" text-anchor="middle" font-size="15" font-weight="bold" fill="#0f2947">Closing on the reverse signal</text>
<line x1="70" y1="50" x2="70" y2="290" stroke="#b8c4d4" stroke-width="1"/>
<line x1="70" y1="290" x2="730" y2="290" stroke="#b8c4d4" stroke-width="1"/>
<text x="40" y="170" font-size="11" fill="#5a6b80" transform="rotate(-90 40 170)">price</text>
<text x="725" y="308" text-anchor="end" font-size="11" fill="#5a6b80">time</text>
<line x1="90" y1="58" x2="120" y2="58" stroke="#1f6fd1" stroke-width="3"/>
<text x="126" y="62" font-size="11" fill="#0f2947">Fast feed</text>
<line x1="200" y1="58" x2="230" y2="58" stroke="#0f2947" stroke-width="2"/>
<text x="236" y="62" font-size="11" fill="#0f2947">Trading account price</text>
<polyline fill="none" stroke="#1f6fd1" stroke-width="3" points="70,200 160,200 180,120 450,120 470,215 730,215"/>
<polyline fill="none" stroke="#0f2947" stroke-width="2" points="70,206 330,206 350,126 610,126 630,222 730,222"/>
<line x1="205" y1="122" x2="205" y2="204" stroke="#0f2947" stroke-width="1.2"/>
<circle cx="205" cy="206" r="5" fill="#0f2947"/>
<text x="212" y="160" font-size="11" fill="#0f2947">Buy difference</text>
<text x="212" y="174" font-size="11" fill="#0f2947">> Diff to open</text>
<text x="190" y="228" font-size="11" fill="#0f2947">Buy opened</text>
<line x1="485" y1="128" x2="485" y2="213" stroke="#e8533f" stroke-width="1.2"/>
<circle cx="485" cy="126" r="6" fill="#e8533f"/>
<text x="485" y="110" text-anchor="middle" font-size="11" font-weight="bold" fill="#e8533f">Closed on reverse signal</text>
<text x="492" y="165" font-size="11" fill="#0f2947">Sell difference</text>
<text x="492" y="179" font-size="11" fill="#e8533f">> Reverse signal diff</text>
<line x1="640" y1="126" x2="640" y2="222" stroke="#5a6b80" stroke-width="1" stroke-dasharray="4,3"/>
<text x="648" y="170" font-size="11" fill="#5a6b80">drop</text>
<text x="648" y="184" font-size="11" fill="#5a6b80">avoided</text>
<text x="380" y="330" text-anchor="middle" font-size="11" fill="#5a6b80">Illustration.
